Some words on the year 2013

In this article I have written some words on my year 2013. What I have experienced in my coaching career and also personally. The year has been a mixed one with up and downs on the football pitch. But overall it has been good coaching year for me. It started back in January when I got my UEFA A-license after one year of hard work.

But the highlight of the year was when my wife Lisbeth and I found out, that we were pregnant again with our second child. Date set to January 1st 2014.

I decided to focus a lot on the physical condition of my U17 players at Aabenraa BK, because when I took over the squad back in July 2012, many of the boys arrived injured or with some minor muscle problems. Now in January 2013 all players were fit again and I wanted to keep them fit. During the pre-season preparation everything went very well. We played well in our friendly matches and we got no injuries.

Right from the start of the season, we showed our potential. After finishing 3rd last season, we wanted to win the league this season. And we succeeded on that.

During the season I was contacted by Haderslev FK (the mother club of the Danish Super League side SønderjyskE) and asked if I was interested in a coaching position at the club. Of course I was interested. We held some talks and I thanked “yes” to an assistant role for the U15 Elite team. Here I have established at great cooperation and friendship with the experienced head coach Rene Hakala.

The U15 season from August to November was very hard and experiencing. We were in the bottom three the whole season. And on the last match day we were going to Kolding. We needed only draw to stay free of relegation. But 10 minutes into the second half, they took the lead by 1-0. It looked game over for us, but 4 minutes before the final whistle we equalized – 1-1. 3 minutes into stoppage time we scored again and won the match 2-1.

I am looking forward to the challenges in 2014 – which hopefully will take me one step closer to the top level.
