Practice ‘Y’-passing

Daniel K. Theemann » 26 February 2010 » In Coaching, Soccer »

Here I give two drills to start practice the ‘Y’-passing, passing accuracy and first touches when turning with the ball.

In my examples, you start off with 8 players per ‘Y’ and 4 cones, where you place 2 players behind each cone. The cones will be placed so that they form an ‘Y’. The drill is described next to the picture.

The key points of the first drill are:

  1. Passing accuracy
  2. Run towards the ball to receive it.
  3. First touch
  4. Turning with the ball
  5. Concentration

Now we go a step further and add 3 more passes in one sequence, the drill is described next to the picture.

The key points of this drill are:

  1. Passing accuracy
  2. Run towards the ball to receive it.
  3. First touch
  4. Wall passing
  5. Concentration

I encourage you to come up with other sequences for this ‘Y’-passing drill. If you do so please post a comment on where to find them.
